About the Program
Georgetown in Doha, Qatar
(GU-Q), formerly known as the School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Q), was established in May 2005 by Georgetown University and the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. The first class began in August of the same year. Its curriculum and academic standards are the same as the SFS curriculum on the Main Campus, as is the quality of its faculty, many of whom come from Main Campus. The campus is located in Education City, along with 5 other American universities.
Georgetown in Doha is located in Qatar, a small peninsula in the Arabian Gulf. Doha, the capital city, has a population of around 900,000 people and is an international center of business and education. You can enjoy traditional shopping, museums dedicated to Arabic culture and history. Arabic is the official language of Qatar, but English is widely spoken amongst Qatar's expatriate population. Islam is the official state religion, with most of the population belonging to the Sunni sect.

You are required to enroll in a full courseload and complete all exams and assignments associated with the course regardless of the credit you wish to receive on the program. Withdrawal from a course or failure to take/complete a final will be regarded as an unauthorized reduction in courseload and a violation of the academic policy.
A full courseload for this program is: 15 credits (5 classes)
GU-Q belongs to a consortium of 6 universities all located in Education City. Each university has their own focus. Study abroad students may cross register into one class at another school in the consortium with the appropriate approval. All GU-Q courses are in-residence, and thus will be factored into your GPA.
The minimum passing grade for this program is: C
You are required to live in program housing.
You have three housing options:
- Residence hall rooms
- Studio or one-bedroom apartments
- Single room in a two or three-bedroom apartment
There is no meal plan on this program. You may eat at any number of cafeterias and restaurants on campus.
