About the Program

CIEE’s program in Buenos Aires allows you to directly matriculate at three local universities: Universidad de Buenos Aires, Universidad Católica Argentina, and Instituto Universitario Nacional de Arte. You may also take courses at the CIEE Study Center with other U.S. based students.


CIEE's Liberal Arts Program is located in Buenos Aires. Situated on a vast estuary known as the Río de la Plata, Buenos Aires is the sprawling capital of Argentina. The city is known for its European architecture, vibrant theatre scene, and one of the largest populations of Italian speakers outside of Italy.

The CIEE Study Center is located in central Buenos Aires. The three local universities have buildings situated throughout the city center.

Academic Calendar

  • Full year: mid-July to mid-July
  • Fall: mid-July to mid-December
  • Spring: late February to mid-July
  • Calendar year: late February to mid-December

You are required to enroll in a full courseload and complete all exams and assignments associated with the course regardless of the credit you wish to receive on the program. Withdrawal from a course or failure to take/complete a final will be regarded as an unauthorized reduction in courseload and a violation of the academic policy.

A full courseload for this program is: a minimum of 4 courses worth 15 Argentine credits. 

Students may take one CIEE course (3-4 credits) and three to four regular university courses for a total of 15-18 Argentine credits, however they may transfer back a maximum of 17 credits.

You are required to live in program housing.

You will live in a homestay arranged by CIEE, and will be provided two meals a day.
